Letter to Jordi

Dear Jordi,

I’m sorry for not having written before, I’ve been very busy. I have many things to tell you. I have been a long time away from home and I miss you very much. I need your advice and our conversations.

In the trip to Paris and Geneva I discovered many new things. I visited many museums of contemporary art and old buildings. In Geneva there are a lot of natural parcs where you can observe nature. I made a drawing of the most beautifull area of each place I’ve visited. I hope you enjoy it as much as me.
In the evening when it begun to dusk, I went to stroll through the countryside and collected a bouquet of wildflowers of different kind to study them after.

On this trip I discovered my true vocation. I love nature and I would like to study botanical sciences to become a famous botanist.

I have to tell you a very important thing. I have met two very nice men, and I have special feelings for them.
Jordi...Oh my god Jordi. I’m very confused.
Never in my life I have loved two men.
I need help! What should I do?
I like Arthur since I met him at my party. He is an attractive man, sensible, serious, strict with another persons. He looks so smart, always dressed in black jackets, black trousers, and such an elegant suit. And he can cook!
The other man comes from Geneva. He is very romantic and funny. He makes me laugh, he buys presents for me, he gave me a surprise present every day. I like his personality, and his eyes!! They are so beautiful!!

I need help because I don't know what to do in this case. I am very nervous, and I am in a very strange situation! I feel very bad! Help me dear brother, please!

I will send you the drawings that I did, I love you very much.
I hope that we don’t lost the contact.
Your dear sister
Julia

Letter to her parents

Dear parents,

I am very happy. I have already arrived in Rome, this is wonderful. The journey was very long and tiring, but finally I have come here. I'm surrounded by a splendid landscape, very nice.
I have spent a few days here and I've used the time to the fullest. I have come here eager to visit places and things there.
The first day after the journey, having rested, I went to visit the Colosseum. I was very keen to visit it and it impressed me a lot. Spectacular!
The Pantheon is the best preserved monument of all buildings Romans, and perhaps the best preserved building of its age in the world.
The second day of my stay in Rome couldn’t wait more time to visit the Pantheon in Rome. It's huge! And also I was very impressed by their spectacular architecture.
Yesterday I was at a masks party. It was super nice. There were many people, all very elegant and very glamorous. These days I stayed in a house as a guest with a very wealthy family and very well respected here in Rome.
And today, which is the fourth day I'm here, I would like to visit the Saint Peters Basilica.
I will continue explaining how my days are in Rome in my next letter.

I miss you!
Julia

Letter to Arthur Campbell

Dear Mr. Campbell,

I haven’t had any news from you in months and I am growing anxious least something bad has happened to you.
Mum and I left from Barcelona on the house that my father had.
I want to tell you many things about the journey that I am doing. I travelled to Paris and I visited the marvellous buildings of this city. I went to visit the Luxemburg Palace and the Gardens where I saw the pictures of Rubens and al types of flowers, plants, shrubs…a beautiful landscape.

After our stay in Paris, my mum left for Edinburgh and I went to Geneva with Ms Valldonzella, in Switzerland. It was the first time that I travelled alone, without my family. The trip by carriage was a disaster. In normal conditions it takes seven days, but the weather was very bad, it was raining and it was very cold. The road was in bad conditions and the horses slipped and our carriage overturned. I was very frightened!. The carriage broke and we had to walk for many hours until we saw a house where we could ask for help. The new carriage arrived two days ago and then we could continue with the trip. Finally the trip took nine days.

The day we arrived to Geneva we were very tired and we rested at a hostel.
During the stay in Geneva we went to visit Chillon Castle near Montreaux. Is a very interesting museum.

I’m enjoying myself with this trip, because I’m learning very much. I would like to go to Edimburg next year. Arthur, how are you doing in Edimburg? How is your life there? And what will you do in your future in Edimburg?
I miss you and I want to see you soon. I wait for your answer.

Keep in touch

Julia Balaguer

Her personal Diary

Friday, 14th

When I got up, I looked through the window and it was sunny. Today was a much better day to write my diary.
The last day when I visited a big botanical garden, is "Jardin des Plants", the main botanical garden in France.
There are many types of butterflies, I investigated one particular type: The Monarch butterfly. This is a multi-coloured butterfly.
Its head is very small. It has eyes, two antennas and a long proboscis.
Its thorax is a little bit bigger than its head. In the thorax their have four wings and six legs (four longs, two shorts). thorax contains the muscles that make the legs and wings move.
And the abdomen is the tail end. It is longer than the thorax.
The wings have very colours: black, yellow, orange, white.I also saw many of these butterflies in the Muséum Nacional d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris. I liked this Muséum very much, and I spend the whole day walking and observing beautiful butterflies as these.

Julia's life

Julia Balaguer McPherson was born in Barcelona in 1770. She is 17 years old.She is in her house all day and helps her mother. She is very efficient and she loves literature and reading in the garden when it gets dark because she is a nature-lover.
She has got her own ideas and she is ripe for her age, given that society is very hard with her because she is not married or engaged. Yet, she is not worried about that.
She has got a dream, Julia wants to travel around the world to live new experiences even though her parent's dream are to see her daughter married.
